Abstract Information

Your land may have a direct connection to Iowa State University's history and Iowa’s land-grant legacy. The Morrill Act of 1862 granted 210,000 acres of land to the state for generating funds to build a land-grant university. Some of the land was sold, some was leased. Either way, the money generated helped fund Iowa State University.

If a red square on the  ISU Land Grant Web map is within the boundaries of your land, it is quite likely that your land was first leased or sold to help fund Iowa’s land-grant university.
